Star Wars creator George Lucas, is set to appear on Oprah’s Next Chapter, Jan. 15th . The segment will be recorded at Skywalker Ranch and will feature not only GL, but the stars of Red Tails!
GL also spoke to USA Today about Red Tails, filmaking, and how the movie might effect Black Cinema in the future. See the full article and video here.
AMANDA LUCAS BUSTING OUT
As some of you may know, GL’s daughter Katie has somewhat followed in her father’s footsteps and has written episodes of The Clone Wars. Something I found that was a surprise to me is that the older Lucas daughter, Amanda, has made some notoriety for herself as an FMMA fighter! She holds a 3-1 win/loss record as a pro fighter, and is currently busting heads around Japan. When asked about her famous parentage Lucas had this to say,” I don’t fight because of my last name, but if I’m getting the opportunity [to fight] and I can bring fans in because of it, then that’s cool, and I appreciate it. I just want to put on a good show and do what I do.” While keeping up a tight training schedule, and traveling around the world, AL also finds time to be a wife and mother. Hopefully we’ll be seeing her on the U.S. Circuit in the near future.
I DON’T WANNA GROW UP, I’M A STAR WARS KID
I myself am a child of 1985, so I was born on the downslide of the initial hype of the OT (Original Trilogy). For those of you ‘Gray Beards’ who were around for the release of the OT there’s a Flickr group just for you! Growing Up Star Wars is a photo collection where fans born from ’77 – ’85 can post pictures of their greatest SW memories. I think it’s great that we’re able to share the joy of these fan’s first SW experiences.
DRUNK VADER GETS TROOPED
Orlando, Fl native Michael E. Cole was arrested this week for walking down the highway intoxicated wearing a Darth Vader mask. Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol were called out and Cole had to be pepper sprayed after trying to resist arrest. He is currently being held without bail.
DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE
For many of us there’s that one thing that we’ve always wished for, a dream that is seemingly impossible, but that doesn’t stop us from hoping for it anyway. Every now and again a lucky one of us gets our wish granted and that happened for 11 year old Lane Mullins in a very special way. The Make A Wish Foundation and over 200 volunteers came together to bring Lane’s wish for a fort modeled after a Star Wars ship’s bridge to life. Lane has lived with muscular dystrophy all his life so many of the things he would like to do are out of his reach, but this fort comes fully tricked out with wheelchair access, power doors, and A/C. Many people came to Lane’s Goldvein, Va home to celebrate with Lane, including members of the 501stLegion’s Garrison Tyrannus and a real life Chewie!
STAR WARS WITH FRIES & A COKE
French fast food chain Quick, has come out with a line of Stars Wars themed burgers to promote the release of Episode I in 3D. The options are the green Yoda-themed ‘Jedi Burger’, the red ‘Dark Burger’ patterned for Darth Maul, and the strikingly black bunned ‘Dark Vador’. These culinary delights aren’t available in the U.S., but that’s probably for the best because I don’t need anymore fast food around my middle!
LIPTON BRINGS THE FORCE
Here in the U.S., Brisk tea is also hopping aboard the promotional train by coming out with packaging featuring Darth Maul and Yoda. They also came out with a smart phone app called ‘Brisksaber’ which turns your finger into a lightsaber!
